Intimacy, sensuality, and romance are some of the elements that distinguish Bachata – a contagious rhythm and a passionate dance born in the Dominican Republic – from other dance genres of Afro-Caribbean origin. Unlike Salsa, Bachata is meant to express, not to impress; yet its intricate steps and upper-body movements can prove challenging even to the most seasoned dancer. Fortunately, learning Bachata is made easy and fun with Ronald and Sanaa Martinez from Bachata Vancouver. By combining their extensive bolero and belly dancing backgrounds, this talented couple developed a new Bachata style – a rich fusion of cultures, aesthetics and movements – that in no time has revolutionized the Pacific Northwest. Overnight, their innovative style was being showcased at Congresses and Conventions throughout North America (Mexico City, Acapulco, and Seattle, to name but a few), influencing students of all nationalities – many of whom have in turn taken Bachata as far as China and Japan.
